Five Summer Health Checks

in Health & Well-being

Unfortunately, we aren’t immortal and it’s important to keep our health in regular check as our bodies do go through a process of wear and tear as we get older and occasionally needs some servicing… just like our cars do.

It’s therefore a good idea to get a check-up from time to time and call the family dentist oakland, and this article looks at a number of quick and simple tests you might want to consider undertaking as part of your plan for a healthier lifestyle.

Of course, prevention is much better than cure and it’s advisable to start doing the simple things that make all the difference, from ensuring you get plenty of fresh water each day to exercising more, and making healthier choices such as using sweetener rather than sugar and exchange your traditional packet of cigarettes for something more like Aspire Breeze 2 in order to reduce the damage caused by smoking.

With that in mind, let’s now look at six summer health checks to consider this summer.

Eye Test

Many people today, particularly those that use computers intensively are finding they are struggling with their eyesight prematurely to what was once the norm; indeed, today, it’s not just computers – we have huge televisions and mobile devices our eyes are glued to all the time.  Indeed, some people are literally in front of some type of back-lit screen for the majority of their day – the first thing they’ll do is check their phone in the morning, then they’ll work with computers throughout the day, watch TV at home, then in bed, either play a game such as Candy Crush in order to unwind, read a book on a back-lit tablet device, or perhaps watch a film on their laptop or tablet.

In a world where our eyes have to endure much more strain than they used to, it’s important to keep a check on the health of your eyes, even if you’re young. It’s your choice whether to go for traditional eyeglasses or for a pair of contact lenses. You can visit contactlenses.co.uk for contact lenses if you opt to go with the latter.

Hearing Test

Hearing evaluations are one of the less invasive tests you can have, yet so many people put this off, as there seems to remain a social stigma about wearing a hearing aid, perhaps because this is associated with old age and degenerating health; but again, we are all listening to much louder music than we ever used to – nightclubs and gyms have a tendency to blast out the decibels to a ridiculously high level in order to get people into the right emotional state, and similarly, when we are listening to our headphones particularly if we are in a noisy environment such as a plane, the volume is turned right up.

Therefore, we do sometimes lose the edge of our ability to hear others, which inevitably leads to quite severe and embarrassing communication issues. If you find yourself struggling with your hearing it’s a good idea to get a quick test, and it’s good to note that many modern hearing aids, like the ones from Ziphearing, are now totally hidden within the ear itself.

Oral Health

The interesting thing with oral health is that as long as you keep on top of it, it’s actually pretty inexpensive and pretty painless, however, when we neglect to get check-ups we allow what could have been a small problem that required a tiny filling to turn into a huge problem that requires either much more invasive and expensive root canal treatment or perhaps an extraction.  The best advice, therefore, is to visit your dentist regularly and keep on top of your oral health to the best of your ability to regularly brushing, flossing and using a decent mouthwash.

Cancer Check-up

According to statistics, from cancer research, as many as 1 in 2 people will develop cancer at some point in their lives.  If you have reason to suspect anything of this nature, the best thing to do is book an appointment to get it checked out as early detection is hugely important when it comes to survival rates.

Cholesterol

Today, a lot of us live on processed foods as they are extremely convenient, yet as a result, a lot of us suffer will suffer with high levels of cholesterol in our blood which causes the arteries to begin to clog up, become furry, and eventually harden to the point blood supply is restricted.

Cholesterol is a major cause of heart disease.  It’s therefore important to get this checked out sooner rather than later; whether that’s with your doctor or you can even order a self-testing kit to measure your own cholesterol, in the first instance.
