Having a fundraising event is a great way to support a good cause. Host it on a weekend when everyone is free and the adults aren’t at work. Promote the fundraising event and sell admissions tickets beforehand. Let people know that the price of their tickets includes food and drinks, but if they want to take part in various activities, they have to purchase tokens too.
Find a venue
Make the most of the summer weather and have your fundraising event outdoors. Talk to the local council about using a public park or ask a school if you can use their sports field. If you’re worried about the weather, hire a marquee.
Have a barbecue
Get some disposable grills and have a barbecue! Hotdogs, burgers, cauliflower steaks, and kebabs are always popular. Don’t forget to get plenty of snacks! Have a refreshment table and something tasty for dessert. The best way to this would be to have each of your volunteers bring something, kind of like a pot luck dinner. Bring some recyclable paper plates and cups too!
Music
You’re going to need some kind of entertainment, so ask a local band or a DJ to perform and provide some music for the afternoon.
Tombola
Having tombola with a lot of great prizes is a great way to raise money. People will be more than happy to donate prizes, from a giant teddy bear to a hamper to homemade jams and jellies.
Activities
Make sure there are lots of family activities, like face painting, cookie decorating, arts and crafts, guessing how many sweets are in a jar, ring toss, and more! Check out air track prices and have an egg and spoon race. You could even try organising a fun game of softball. Get an inflatable slip and slide for adults and watch people queue up to enjoy it. Sell tokens for a small fee and make clear how many tokens people need in order to take part in each activity.
Obstacle course
Bear in mind this is a family fun day, so you’re going to need something to really draw people’s attention. Get an airtrack training set and set up an obstacle course. Have adults and children sign up to do it in teams to give it more of a competitive edge and give out a prize at the end.
Clean up at the end
Have a group of volunteers on hand to pack up and pick up litter at the end of the day to keep the venue tidy. Don’t forget to thank the volunteers for all of their hard work and dedication!
