Modern Home Renovation Ideas

in Home Improvement

If your home is long overdue for a spruce up, or if you’ve just bought a house that needs renovating, you’re probably trying to envision what you want your home to look like. If you’re in need of some inspiration, check out some of our home renovation ideas.

Hallway

Your hallway is the first thing you see when you enter your house, so you’ll want to make it look homey. If your hallway is small, hang a mirror on the wall—mirrors create the illusion of space. Put up a row of hooks near the entryway for people to hang their coats and add a shoe rack underneath them.

If you’re also looking to make changes to the stairway, you can replace the handrail and balustrades. To make the steps stand out, you could add a stair runner or use tiles to decorate the stair risers. Put up some sconces along the stairway to illuminate it and make it more inviting.

Kitchen

You the backsplash behind your cooker doesn’t need to be boring. Pick out some colourful tiles or something that will stand out. If you have to look at it when you cook every day, then you might as well pick something eye-catching. Cooker hoods don’t have to look industrial either; they can have a metal look, enamel finish, and feature glass. You can also get them in a variety of colours.

If you have enough space, you may want to install an island, so that you can have some extra counter space to prepare food. You can bring in some stools to make it a casual dining space. Lighting is also important. Recessed lighting can look smart, but a decorative lighting fixture will make a statement.

Dining Room

When redesigning your dining room, the table with be the focus of the room. You can go for a glossy wood table or something more modern, like a glass dining table with metal legs. If there are only a few people living in your home, but you entertain a lot of guests, then you can go for a large table or, in the interest of saving space, a drop-leaf or a gateleg table. To change it up a bit, get some differently patterned table cloths. Put up an interesting light fixture or chandelier above the table to light up the space. And if you want to make the walls stand out, put up some embossed wallpaper or wood wall planks.

Livingroom

Make this room a comforting area where you can sit and enjoy time with your family.

If you have a fireplace, then use the surrounding wall as a feature wall. You can hang a family portrait above it or a piece of artwork. You can even paint it a different colour to the other walls to make it stand out.

If you don’t want to go through the hassle of picking out a new sofa, you can always get your old one reupholstered with a different fabric. If you get a tall lamp to place next to the sofa, it will provide soft lighting in the evening, so you don’t have to keep the ceiling lights on.

Instead of tearing up dull-looking hardwood floors, give them new life by having them refinished. If you go on the internet and look up things like “Hardwood Floor Refinishing Richmond”, you’ll find plenty of places that will repair and refinish your old hardwood floors.

Bathroom

Pick out a bold tile for your bathroom—something that will stand out. Marbled tiles are quite popular and create a timeless look. If you have a large bathroom, you should consider getting a separate bathtub and stand-up shower. If you install a heated towel rack, you won’t have to wait long for your towels to dry. You should also consider replacing your old toilet with an eco-friendlier version. When you install your new sink, build a cupboard underneath it for some added storage for your toiletries and other household items. Pick out a mirror with an eye-catching frame to go above the sink and make sure there are lights either side so it is well lit.

Bedrooms

When it comes to designing bedrooms, simpler is better. You need a tranquil space where you can relax at the end of the day without any distractions. Before picking out a new bed, you should measure the room. There’s no point in buying a huge bed if it’s going to take up too much space. Paint the walls a simple block colour, like blue or magnolia. Use patterned bedding, throw pillows and drapes to add a splash of colour. Go for blackout blinds so you can have a better night’s rest.

Hopefully these concepts have given you an idea about how you would like to renovate and redesign your own home. Whatever you choose to go with, we wish you the best of luck with your home renovation plans!
