Things to Do on the Weekend After a Long Week at Work

in Lifestyle

Even if you love your career, it can be pretty taxing. Every time Monday rolls around, we wonder where the time has gone and how long it will be until the next weekend arrives. Most of us can’t wait until Friday, because we know that we have the whole weekend ahead of us to do whatever we want. TGIF! Since you’ve probably been too busy at work to figure out what you’re doing this weekend or most weekends for the foreseeable future, I’ve come up with a few plans for you. Enjoy!

Put Your Feet Up

You need to take some time to relax after a full week at work, doing your Saturday food shop, finishing your household chores, and looking after the kids. It may seem like you never have the time, but you’ll simply have to find the time. Next weekend, do your shopping online, hint to your partner that cleaning the house would be a romantic gesture, and send the kids to grandma’s house for a couple hours. There’s no shame in putting your feet up and having some ‘you time’ after all of the hard work you put in from 9 to 5.

Enjoy the Little Things

Do all the things you wouldn’t normally have time to do on a weekday. Watch a film, do some gardening, test some recipes from your new cookbook, play at a live casino online, or finish that novel you’ve been dying to read. If you’re the kind of person who wakes with the sun, why not take the time to enjoy the sunrise without rushing around to get ready for work or frantically searching for your car keys? And don’t feel guilty if you feel inclined to taking a nap in the middle of the afternoon.

Spend Time with Your Family

Whether it’s a day out at the park, going on a camping trip, or a family dinner, you should always spend some time with your family. Your immediate family only get to see you in the mornings and the evenings on workdays, and to be honest, that’s just not enough time. And what about your parents, aunts, uncles and cousins? Stop by for a cup of tea every once in a while, or have a big family barbecue on the first Sunday of every month.

Go Out with Your Friends

The older you get, the less time you spend with your friends. Go out for brunch so you can catch up on the latest gossip. Find an activity you can all do together, like taking a yoga class or enjoying a cocktail or beer at the local pub. And as for the friends who don’t live nearby, give them a call or have a group video chat. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it.

Splurge a Little

When you spend your days making money to provide for yourself and your family, it’s okay to splurge a little. I’m not saying that you have to go nuts, but sometimes indulging and rewarding yourself is a good thing. Go ahead and buy yourself a new outfit for date night and go to your favourite restaurant. Have a day at the spa or invest in some items to decorate your house. Don’t deprive yourself just because you feel greedy or irresponsible. You should spoil and pamper yourself every now and then. And if you’re looking for an adventure, why not treat yourself to a short weekend away?

Meal Prep

You probably want to rest on the weekend, and prepping your lunches for the next five days is the last thing you want to do on a Sunday, but think about the time and money you’ll save during the week. If you plan and prep your meals on the weekend, you won’t have to spend each evening sorting out your lunch or going the supermarket and spend silly money on soggy sandwiches if you forget to make one yourself. You can make a lot of simple, delicious meals that you know you’ll enjoy and save yourself a little extra time on workday evenings to chill on the couch and watch a film with your family.
