4 Inexpensive Ways to Modernise Your Interior Design

in Lifestyle

Modernising your house is a great way to re-energise the aura of the home and give it your own new, special touch. Maybe you’ve been meaning to update because you feel the house has become a little outdated, or maybe you’d like to increase the resale value. It can be easy to put off improvements out of fear of the costs it will create, but that needn’t be the case.

There are multiple inexpensive ways to modernise the overall look of your home, here are just a few of them.

1. Modern Wall Lighting

Adding some modern lighting to your home is such a simple way to add some elegance and change the entire mood of a room. There’s no huge install required, which means lots of money is saved. Although many are under the impression that wall lights are a thing of the past, there is a wide range of modern wall lights that are equipped with a shiny chrome finish to match modern appliances.

Plus, many are designed to sit at eye level, so everyone who comes to visit is bound to notice their beauty. Have them leading up the stairs, or put them in the living space for effect when watching a movie at night.

2. Add Moulding

Moulding is another inexpensive way to create impact in your home space and make it seem more up to date. Crown moulding is the most popular design where the ceiling and walls meet. Depending on how far your budget can stretch, you can select from a range of detailed styles or stick to the basic appearance. You can also opt to get the painted plastic version to save some extra money.

3. Upgrade the Kitchen

If you’ve been dealing with an outdated kitchen for years and think the only way to improve it is for a complete renovation, you’ve been wrong. Making relatively simple and cheap changes can go a long way. For example, instead of ripping out all of the units and replacing them, simply change the doors or even the door handles.

There are also some key lighting changes you can make to the kitchen, such as spotlights under cabinets to create effect. If you’re stuck with a small space, try adding a large mirror to create the illusion of a bigger space.

As far as bigger appliances go, it’s common that they won’t all match. Try speaking to the manufacturers and see if they can provide you with new doors/face panels that will fit with the entire kitchen.

4. Spruce up Your Windows

Most people don’t realise it, but there’s a lot of customisation you can put into windows. Modern, unique shade designs and window panels are an affordable way to beautifully tie a room together. There are different types of blinds that can add modern style to a room, from wood to aluminium. If you have tall windows, fitting curtains instead of blinds often looks the most appealing.

Don’t neglect the outside, either. Nice decorations located right outside of the window are a great way to really show off some crafty home design.

Now get to it!

There you have it. Modernising the home doesn’t have to be a bank breaking affair. As with anything, make sure you do some comparison shopping, and if you do need some hired work, make sure you get at least a couple estimates to compare.
