Are You Dealing With a Few Too Many Distractions in Your Home Office?

in Home Improvement

Having a home office is great. You get to work from the most comfortable place known to man, and you get to juggle all of your other responsibilities in a much more balanced way. All in all, you’re already a winner! But sometimes our home offices can get a little confused; maybe things are a little messy, maybe it’s getting harder and harder to actually focus on work? No matter what it is that’s distracting you, we’re here to help! Here are a few questions that should help you work out if you need to calm things down at your desk.

Is Your Phone Always Going Off?

If so, it’s time to disconnect and turn off during working hours! It’s all fine and good to have it on silent, but if it’s vibrating off the table with messages, calls, and emails, it definitely needs turning off or putting in another room. You won’t be able to get anything done if everyone is trying to get your attention at the same time! And you don’t need to feel bad about doing this either – it’s easy to set up automatic replies that tell someone you’ll get back to them as soon as possible.

Is Your Desk Messy?

A messy desk is a big no-no! You won’t be able to find anything, you’ll be a lot more uncomfortable with working there, and it’s just bad practice to leave things lying around where they could get lost. So, clean up now; it’s easy to find out how to feng shui your office desk and your working space will feel so much better as a result. Also, buy a rubbish and pop it right next to your desk, to make sure you can throw things away as soon as you need to.

Is Your Office in an Active Area?

If it is, it might be worth it to move it somewhere quieter and more peaceful. You won’t be able to get anything done during the day if you’re always noticing something going on outside your window, or your walls are paper thin on one side and you can hear everything the neighbours get up to! Even just moving your desk and cabinets to the opposite side of the room can go a long way to fixing this issue, and it’s worth it to experiment to find the right placing for your needs.

Are You Scheduling a Few Too Many Meetings?

Finally, you might just be overworking yourself! Having a day filled with meetings does no one any favours, and means you can’t get anything meaningful done in the meantime. See if any of these meetings can be commuted to emails or phone calls, and don’t be afraid to reschedule for a less jam-packed day in the future.

Working from home can get a little distracting, we all know that! However, you can cut things back and make sure your work receives priority if things are starting to be a struggle.
