Different Massage Techniques

in Health & Well-being

A good massage can melt away stress and relieve pain, but a massage with cannabidiol (CBD) can provide you with some additional relief and relaxation. CBD can be taken orally or used topically; however, when it comes to massages, CBD is normally infused into creams, ointments, and oils to be applied topically during the massage. CBD topicals do not typically contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient of cannabis, so you won’t feel a ‘high.’ In these topicals, CBD can be mixed with other ingredients, such as essential oils and other natural ingredients like coconut oil, aloe vera, shea butter, and beeswax. There are many different kinds of CBD products for different massages and treatments.

Swedish Massage

This is probably the most popular and well-known kind of massage, also known as a classic massage. It focuses on the whole body, and can improve your circulation and relax your muscles using the five main massage strokes. This is a gentler kind of massage that can reduce depression and anxiety and reduce muscle stiffness. If you’ve never had a massage before, you may want to try a Swedish massage first. Using a CBD massage oil will moisturize your skin and also help with skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massages are used to treat chronic pain and soreness. Therapists can relieve muscle tension by massaging the deeper layers of muscle. Your massage therapist will apply greater pressure on your muscles to relieve muscle knots in your neck, shoulders, back, and legs. As CBD can be used for pain management, using a CBD-infused cream or oil during a deep tissue massage may prove to be beneficial as a part of your massage therapy. You may feel some discomfort as the therapist works on your muscles, but you should let them know if you are feeling any pain.

Aromatherapy Massage

Another kind of massage you may want to try first is an aromatherapy massage, which is similar to a Swedish massage, but with the use of topical lotions and ointments infused with essential oils, and sometimes CBD oil. Your therapist may also use an essential oil diffuser or scented candles, and as essentials oils have different benefits and properties, they will decide on which scents and oils would benefit you the most.

Sports Massage

This kind of massage is similar to a deep tissue massage, and is used to treat sports injuries. It is often used by many athletes and sportspeople. If you talk to your massage therapist, they can help you to decide whether a full-body or a localized massage would be better for you. A sports massage can help you to improve your flexibility and prevent injuries, and will quicken your recovery time if you have injured yourself. CBD has anti-inflammatory properties, so it may help you to recover faster from muscle strains and injuries.

Reflexology Massage

During a reflexology massage, your massage therapist will focus on specific pressure points on your feet, ears, and hands. Reflexology is based on the principal that certain body parts are connected to other organs and areas of the body. This, combined with the use of CBD, will help you to relax and reduce minor aches and pains.
