How you look and outfits that you wear will send a certain message about you. Be it that you are elegant and polish, urban, classy, or maybe a fan of the street style, the clothes you wear will tell a lot about you, whether you like it or not. If you’re in need of a makeover but you don’t know where to start, we have a few tips that will make a true fashionista out of you.
Discover your style
First and foremost, you’ll have to know what clothes make you feel good in your skin and then start working on our wardrobe from there. How do you feel about a pair of cigarette pants, a white button-down shirt and a pair of pumps alongside a trench coat and an elegant bag? If that’s something you can imagine yourself wearing, try it out and see if you like what you see in the mirror. If it’s not your cup of tea, move along and try out various styles until you find the one that describes you the best.
Create a capsule wardrobe
Another way to always look like a fashion cover girl is to create a capsule wardrobe. Invest only in high-quality pieces that can mix and match together for any occasion. What that means is that you’ll need clothes in black, white, beige, grey and navy blue, to start with. A white button-down shirt, black pencil skirt, beige trench coat, black leather jacket, little black dress, navy blue trousers and sweaters are just some of the perfect pieces to include into your capsule wardrobe. If you perhaps have some other colours in mind that will match well, feel free to shop for them, as long as you can create various outfits by mixing and matching them. When you wish to make a statement, include a bold piece such as a fuchsia blazer or red patent pumps into the mix.
Accessories are a must in the world of fashion, so you should always have one or two accessories that will make your outfit pop. From watches to bags, scarves and jewellery, look for women’s accessories online to find a piece that fits you best. A pair of long dangling earrings is perfect to complete your elegant look, while a flashy clutch alongside two statement rings is all you need to make your toned-down cocktail dress sparkle. Colourful blanket-like scarves will look amazing with your black leather jacket, and cute French berets are all you want for autumn days when you can’t let go of our favourite trench.
Keep clothes pressed
Where there’s a wrinkle, there won’t be style. You are what you wear, and how people perceive you will depend a lot on your clothes. Therefore, to achieve a true fashion girl look, always press the clothes that wrinkles easily. Alternatively, avoid viscose, cotton and silk which tend to wrinkle almost just by looking at it, and opt for other fabrics that won’t need such high maintenance. Think cashmere, wool, polyester, and lyocell because they won’t require often ironing.
Choose footwear carefully
You can have your entire outfit perfectly polished from the head down, but if you choose the wrong footwear, it’ll all be for not. Just picture an elegant, silk maxi dress with a pair of flip-flops. It doesn’t work, right? So, when you’re creating your timeless wardrobe, invest in classic footwear first. Black and nude pumps, black strappy high-heel sandals, ankle boots with a small heel, ballerina flats featuring animalistic print, and a pair of white kicks are all you need for starters. When the winter comes, go for two pairs of knee-high boots, one in black other in brown, and consider getting a pair of suede grey calf-high boots for dry weather.
Once you’ve mastered the basics of a fashionable wardrobe, you can start building your style from there. Experiment with colours and cuts, and don’t be afraid to try out various styles until you know exactly which one goes best with your personality.
