Is It Really Possible to Pursue a Degree Online?

in Education

In previous articles, we’ve talked about how you can do a lot of things online. A recent post about how you can do business with your mobile has received a lot of attention. In fact, there are only a handful of things you can’t do online.

Online courses and programs are not new, but they have been very popular these past few years. Students are actively choosing online courses and pursuing their next degrees online. Is it really possible to get online bachelors in business – or a degree in other fields – today?

The Future of Education

Before we answer that question, it is best to look at the history of distance learning and online courses. For a brief period of time, online courses were considered not as good as offline programs. There were a lot of fake online universities offering instant access to degrees and certifications, hence the bad reputation.

Today, however, it is easy to find a reputable online program from top universities. The Arizona State University, for example, has a very good online business administration degree you can pursue. Top names such as Harvard and Stanford all maintain their own distance learning programs. The landscape has changed completely.

It is also worth noting that online degrees are now accredited and highly regulated. The universities behind the existing programs are applying the same high standards and requirements as those of offline programs, which means students are required to meet that same high standards in order to both enroll and graduate.

Better Opportunities for All

What makes online programs so popular is the immense array of opportunities they bring to more people. It used to not be possible for students to pursue a bachelor’s degree without committing to the program and becoming a full-time student.

Today, however, those who are fresh out of high school are already running their own businesses or maintaining a steady job due to the growing economy. They don’t need to abandon those jobs and businesses just to be able to get an online business degree.

The same can be said for those working overseas, or people who want to enroll at a university that is far away from where they live. Barriers such as the costs of relocating and living expenses are now completely eliminated thanks to online programs, allowing everyone to have the same level of access to top universities across the country.

Easy Access to Top Programs

As mentioned before, the existing programs are following the same high standards set by the universities behind them. That said you can still enroll in whatever program you choose as long as you meet the program’s requirements.

In most cases, you are required to have an accumulated GPA of 3.0 as well as meet other requirements. Other courses have more relaxed requirements for potential students, making them suitable for even more people.

So, is it really possible to get a bachelor’s degree online? The answer to this question is an absolute yes. Find a suitable program to take and you’ll be well on your way towards earning a degree of your choice.
