Attention Retirees: Tips to Stay Fit and Healthy

We all tend to take our good health for granted, but as we age, it becomes more difficult to maintain good health & well-being. Of course, staying active is half the battle, along with having a balanced diet and most importantly, spending some time doing something you are passionate about.

Here are a few tips to help you maintain good health & well-being.

  • Keep busy – It can be quite a shock to the system when you eventually stop working and this is the time to do all those things you wanted to do when you were working. If you are an avid golfer, now is the time to get out of those clubs and have a leisurely round of golf, while some prefer the calmness and serenity of fishing and you have all the time in the world to do whatever it is that you have a passion for. When a person who has worked for 40 years suddenly has a lot of time on their hands, the worst thing to do is sit and look at the four walls, which can be easy to do if you live alone.

If you are going out for any reason, tell someone close to you; give them your destination and your expected time home and should you not return, they can call you. Does your bathroom have a support rail? Are you having any mobility issues?   • Morning walk – Life takes on a new meaning when you take an early morning walk; look at the birds, bees and other animals that coexist alongside us. If you are lucky enough to live in a place with nature, a daily walk should be part of your life and if you live in the city, there are beautiful parks.

If we embrace our retirement and follow the above advice, we should enjoy our golden years, which is a reward for many years of hard work. Make plans and think outside the box; book short holidays in places you have yet to visit and use the public holidays to get together with your kids and their families. One of the nicest aspects of retirement is the fact that you are no longer a slave to time.
